Setting Up Google Workspace DNS (Formerly G Suite)
If you are a Google Workspace customer, previously known as G Suite, and wish to connect your domain to Google Workspace, follow these steps. This process assumes that your domain's nameservers are already pointed correctly.
Step-by-Step Guide to Connect Your Domain to Google Workspace
Pre-Requisite:
Ensure your nameservers are pointed to the appropriate DNS providers. You need to log in to your domain registrar's management panel to set this up if it hasn't been done already.
Login to Your Hosting Account (If Applicable):
-
Login to your Client Area.
-
Navigate to Domains > My Domains > Active.
-
Click on DNS Management Tool or Zone Editor.
DNS Configuration for Google Workspace:
Once logged into your DNS management tool, use the following DNS settings depending on when you signed up for Google Workspace.
For Customers Who Signed Up Before 2023:
You need to add the following MX (Mail Exchange) records to your DNS settings.
Host Name | Record Type | Address | Priority |
---|---|---|---|
@ | MX | ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM. | 1 |
@ | MX | ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM. | 5 |
@ | MX | ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM. | 5 |
@ | MX | ALT3.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM. | 10 |
@ | MX | ALT4.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM. | 10 |
For Customers Who Subscribed After April 2023:
If you signed up after April 2023, only one MX record needs to be added:
Name/Host/Alias | Priority | Value/Answer/Destination |
---|---|---|
Blank or @ | 1 | SMTP.GOOGLE.COM |
Final Steps:
-
After adding the necessary MX records, your Google Workspace is configured.
-
Allow up to 48 hours for DNS propagation to complete and the changes to take effect.
Conclusion:
Once the DNS changes propagate, your email and Google Workspace services will be fully functional. If you encounter any issues or need further assistance, don't hesitate to contact support.
