Resource Limit

Resource Limit

At StickyHosting, we have resource limits in place on our shared platforms to help protect your account. In the past, other users on a server could consume all the available resources (such as CPU, RAM, or Disk Access), which would cause a slowdown for other websites hosted on the same server.

We use CloudLinux, a specialized operating system, which helps ensure that each website on the server has fair and adequate access to resources. CloudLinux uses the LVE system (Lightweight Virtual Environment) to manage resources at the kernel level, ensuring no website consumes too many resources at the expense of others.

how to know our Current Usage:

You can check your current resource usage through your cPanel account. To do so, log into your hosting panel and navigate to the Stats widget on the left:

  • CPU Usage: Indicates how much of your allocated CPU resources are being used. If CPU usage reaches 100%, new processes will be put to sleep until existing ones finish, causing potential slowdowns or timeouts on your website.

  • Virtual Memory Usage: Reflects how much memory your processes are using within LVE. CloudLinux will prevent additional memory allocation if the total memory exceeds the set limit, potentially causing the process to fail.

  • Physical Memory (RAM) Usage: This is the actual memory allocated for your account. If your website consumes too much physical memory, you may experience PHP errors or CloudLinux error pages until usage falls back below the limit.

  • Entry Processes: This refers to the number of processes that enter your account (e.g., when a user accesses a PHP page). It doesn't directly correspond to the number of visitors on your website but to how many processes are created by these visitors. SSH sessions and cron jobs also count.

  • Number of Processes: This refers to all processes created by your account, not just PHP or SSH processes.

  • I/O Usage: Measures the disk activity of your account. Heavy disk usage (e.g., generating a large backup) may push your usage beyond the set limit, slowing down processes.

You can view more detailed statistics on your resource usage by navigating to the Logs section and clicking on Resource Usage.

Alerts and Warnings:

If your account frequently hits its resource limits, you will see a warning message at the top of your cPanel page, indicating the exact limits being exceeded.

By checking the Resource Usage in the Logs section, you can get a clearer picture of your usage over different timeframes.

Conclusion:

StickyHosting offers higher resource limits than many competitors and provides an environment where your website can grow without fear of slowdowns due to overcrowded servers. Our CloudLinux-powered platform ensures that your account gets a fair share of resources, with the flexibility to upgrade as your needs increase.
